Incredibly backwards idea

Westminster Council in England wants to give priority council housing to… the working.

Ok, I’m a conservative, and I’m not wild about welfare, but in a depressed economy lots of people are losing jobs and homes. The social safety net is supposed to be there to catch them, not to offer cheaper housing to those who already have an income.

Lemme tell you a story… When the shit hit the fan in 2009 with my ex-husband, I was rendered homeless. After a 4 month wait, subsidized housing became available. With my meager freelance income, I paid my reduced rent. When I began to work full time, I began paying market rent. The agency that provided the housing has given me a one-year grace period of paying market rent to ensure my employment is stable, and then I have to move out. Someone else will need that unit more than me. I won’t be waiting out the full year. I’ll be gone before summer, opening up the apartment to someone who needs it. That is, after all, the point.

I’m not sure what Westminster is playing at. Yes, jobs and working should be rewarded, but why not just admit that you’re doing away with the council housing system? I mean, that’s what they’re doing anyway, they’re just being dishonest about it.

Wendy the family values guru getting divorced? Oh, it must be the queers’ fault somewhere along the lines!

Hmmm… I hadn’t thought of that, Emilia. It would certainly explain him wanting to wear my lingerie. Just sayin’.
