I am not going to make an excuse. I am going to attempt an explanation. To preface, I would go to a counter demonstration in Ottawa should one occur. However it should be noted that Jews are different from radical leftists and Islamists. Different in more ways then the obvious. Muslims and leftists like to stage violent aggressive demonstrations where threats and insults are made and the world knows how angry they are. Jews have in fact held many pro Israel meetings and gatherings of various kinds but do not see the point in putting themselves in direct danger or confrontation. For one thing the ratio is not good. For another, all the pro Israel and for that matter truly pro human rights groups have managed to have their events with zero hostilities, threats to others, damage to property or calls for the deaths of anyone but requests to stop being targeted by Hamas missile fire and requests for Hamas to stop using their own children as bombs and shields. Should a number of Jewish people go to one of these radical marches the chances are the media would make them look morally equivalent no matter who instigated the fighting. The best Jews can hope for from an image point of view would be some get hurt or killed and the media would accuse them of being provocateurs. I do not see any reason why the media would treat diaspora Jews any differently than it treats the state of Israel. The evidence for my contention is that the media has been stone cold silent on the numerous Pro Israel and anti terror rallies which have passed with no events of violence or hate and which had very interesting speakers who raised valid points and had video and images of Hamas and their modus operandi. The last point is one of Steynian demography. Muslims have many young children. At the pro Israel rally I attended in Ottawa, which was somewhat less lame than I expected actually, most where over 40 years old. Many of the younger Jewish people are in university. I think readers of this blog can figure out how a significant number of them may feel about the Gaza conflict. Universities in the west and Montreal in particular have been so co opted to an Islamist and far left agenda many young jews do attend these rallies but on the Hamas side. In essence I do not see a lot of Jews going in front of the line of fire at a possibly violent hate filled festival of Muslim rage.
