I confess I feel similarly about being away from Starbucks for too long but I do believe Jews had better wake up to the new reality, which is a very old reality about the existential threat to Israel and perhaps more importantly to each individual who can be identified as Jewish by any standard whatsoever. At this point it may be worth reminding people that the Nazi definition and one likely to be used again, was having one Jewish grandparent. That's all that was required for a free train ride to Poland. So far, I believe that each of us secretly read about these events and tell ourselves "This doesn't apply to me, I'm not in Israel - This doesn't apply to me I'm not religious and never go to temple - This doesn't apply to me I do not think of myself as Jewish" and eventually "this doesn't apply to me I do not hang out with Jews" Yes a variation on the old theme "First they came for the..." They can't relate and they refuse to acknowledge events that challenge their narrow partisan belief systems.
