I smell taqiyya, but perhaps - just perhaps - he is sincere.
==============================
Funny. I wrote along the same lines on my own blog. This is a good step in the right direction, but he has a long way to go before I'm fully convinced.

"hudna" is the term. ie I'm losing this battle so let's call a truce and be friends. Meanwhile I'll use the time to prepare better for a new attack.

The HRCs are using the same tactic.

Come into my parlour said the spider to the fly.

I will be happy to guard the chicken coop said the fox to the farmer.

No matter how many times we encounter disengenuousness, we still fall for it. I guess it's the inherent Christian instinct to believe that everyone is as decent and well-intentioned as we are.

If Islam was as decent and well intentioned as Christianity, every Muslim nation in the world wouldn't be an oppressive shit hole.

He might want freedom for Islam. The optimal outcome, however, is freedom from Islam.
