It has been 18 years since an Algerian disguised as a French Canadian murdered 14 women in Montreal. The “men” proved to us that we’re on our own to defend ourselves. And the government decided that taxing farmers for their shotguns would prevent it ever happening again.
On Dec 7, 1989, my father turned to me, after the dust had settled and they began to mop up the blood, and said “I am sorry. On behalf of all men, I apologize. We will never again be there for you. We will never again protect you. The only one you can depend on is yourself.”
No one has yet proven him wrong.
