I was just flipping through my Maclean's magazine for this week when I turned the page to an ad for CBC's The Passionate Eye. On September 6th they are going to air an episode of the Eye that focuses on something many of us have turned our thoughts away from - for varying reasons - over the last five years.

When I saw the image at this link, I gasped. Not because I had forgotten it, but because I was not prepared to remember it at that moment. I will do for you what my Maclean's magazine did not do for me: I will warn you that the link will take you to the image of the man falling head first down the side of the World Trade Center. The CBC documentary is meant to identify this terrified man.

A thousand thoughts are going through my head right now. Some of them are angry thoughts about the CBC capitalizing on the misery and fear of September 11th. Some of my thoughts are of how we should be forced to remember this man, and the others like him, so that we'll stop arguing with one another and remember who our real enemies are. Perhaps we should be forced to see this image every day, three times a day, until we are like the rage monkeys from 28 Days Later.

I don't know that I will watch The Passionate Eye that night. But I can assure you, I will not forget that man. Ever.
